John Denver was a superstar performer who influenced millions of people through his songs of pop-folk and many of them inspired by Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and then relocated to Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have attracted many people to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated that John Denver was by far one of the most well-known performers who embodies Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever inductee. He has become the personification of Colorado for people all over. Certainly in my travels you come across someone on the opposite part of the globe, someone of New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the first thing they say is Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint with folk bands and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff originally wrote it using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first moment he listened to the earlier versions that it would be a big hit. The song was recorded just a few days following having performed on stage in Washington D.C. before an crowd that was extremely enthusiastic.
